about
Do you ever just wanna sit down and crack open a cold one at the end of those weary days? Or perhaps you're finding life a little heavy but you persevere anyway because you know things are bound to shape up? It could be a mix of both too. Well for you, our life-worn daily survivors, we have a very street punk influenced song that'll be sure to get you singing along. This month's demo release, titled "Gin For Daze", is a brief memento into the Animal's past living in the very literal streets of Quebec city. Tough times sprout new beginnings, and we readily celebrate those who choose the path to moving forward!
To pair with this month's gin influenced music, the Animal has a special wing recipe for y'all to try!
April Brine - Sign of the Chicken Wing
(Brined chicken wings):
2L water
60 mL Kosher salt
60 mL brown sugar
1½ tsp dried minced onion
1½ tsp red chili flakes
1½ tsp black peppercorns
2 cinnamon sticks
3 cloves of garlic, crushed
2 sprigs fresh rosemary
1. Boil together water, salt and brown sugar. Once the water and sugar are dissolved, remove from heat and add remaining ingredients
2. Allow brine mixture to cool. Put your wings (up to 4lbs) into a sealable container, and pour brine over top until all wings are covered. Seal away for 12-18 hours
3. Preheat oven to 450°F. Remove wings from brine and place directly onto a lined baking sheet. Cook for 40 mins, rotating wings once halfway through
lyrics
Wake up in the street at first crack of light
Watching everybody living 9 to 5
Wonderin' what I'm doing sitting here alone
Thinking to myself of my old French home
Had I done better would I still be here?
Broken and battered, a lonely queer
Into the abyss I go to peer
That ol' bottle gin'll help see things clear
Stuck in that gin haze, for daze for days
Lookin' for that next hit to keep me awake
All. I. Want is a glass filled high
I ain't coming back til I'm feeling ri-i-ight
Til I'm feeling ri-i-ight
Feeling a little daze, just another night
Feeling a lil crazy, but that's alright
All I wanna do is sing this song
Painful reminiscing of what went wrong
Take a lil hit from that bubble pipe
Feel it hit my brain, my mind's all wiped
Take another swig from that bottle of gin
That lukewarm liquor startin to feel like kin
Living for that gin haze, for daze for days
Praying for an angel to show me the way
But who am I kidding no one's here for me
So I finish up that bottle oh yes indee-eed
Oh yes indee-eed
Finally shut my eyes on that cold concrete
Not a soul left here in these streets
I'm just another beggar sitting here alone
Longing for my friends all the way back home
